WACTF

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that the WACTF journey has come to an end. After five iterations across six years, the organisers have decided to close it down. This isn't something that we've taken lightly, but with many growing commitments on the organisers and the (thankful) rise of other CTFs and security initiatives in WA, we wanted to make the call while we were still at the top of our game.

We started this in 2017 as a WA community-built CTF intended to highlight and promote the exceptional technical security talent that we have in this state - both existing and emerging, and are immensely proud of what this has delivered to individuals and the industry as a whole. The number of people that we speak with who genuinely got their start in the security industry through attending WACTF, or who hired people as an outcome of supporting WACTF never ceases to amaze us.

From start to end, we have been a 100% free event and open to everyone. We have been supported by a huge group of people who have collectively committed many 1,000s of hours of their time, and WA and Australian companies and government entities that have put in money without the expectations of booths, attendee lists, or other 'in your face' signs of support. To you all, we are massively proud to have shared our time and energy.

Over the five WACTFs, we've had 1,000s of people participate, written and delivered hundreds of unique challenges, ran enormous Active Directory environments and Kubernetes clusters, consumed several THz of compute, watched Hackers at an awards night, played Wipeout for points, ate over $10,000 of Mack Daddy's pizza, printed over 1,000 t-shirts and more.

So from here, we're stoked to advise that we have made public over 50 challenges for you to use as you wish:

Finally, we would like to point you to a list of other goings on in WA and beyond to get your cybery-fix.
